#Ukraine – A man stormed a Sunday morning liturgy and attempted to attack a Catholic priest with a knife at a church in western Ukraine on September 20th, but parishioners quickly subdued him and the priest escaped unharmed.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the Church of Saints Vladimir and Olga of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on Symonenka Street in Lvov. According to police and witnesses, an unidentified man entered the church during the service, tried to disrupt the liturgy, and approached the priest while carrying a knife.
The priest and several worshippers immediately intervened. They overpowered the assailant, bound him, and escorted him from the church before turning him over to officers. No one was injured.
Lvov regional police said preliminary findings indicated the man had mental health issues and had sought to interrupt the service. Officers transported him to a specialized medical facility. Authorities continued to investigate the circumstances of the attack.
Official reports did not immediately identify the priest or confirm the attacker’s age. The case remained under review by law enforcement.
