Catholic Churches in north Brazil plagued with two recent instances of public desecration
In two separate incidents that unsettled worshippers across Brazil this past week, two Catholic churches were the sites of public desecration. The incidents occurred on June 25th, 2026, at Igreja Matriz do Sagrado Coração de Jesus in Monte Alegre de Sergipe, Brazil, and on August 4th, 2026, at Paróquia São João Batista in Jeremoabo, Bahia, Brazil.

Maharashtra enacts anti-religious conversion law; Catholic Church warns of impact on Christian minorities
Maharashtra became the 13th Indian state to enforce an anti-conversion law after the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Act, 2026, received presidential assent and was notified in the official gazette on July 30. The legislation, which took effect shortly thereafter, prohibited religious conversions carried out through force, coercion, fraud, allurement, undue influence, misrepresentation or marriage-related deception.
