#USA #Pennsylvania – In September 2022, the FBI raided Mark Houck’s family home with guns drawn, arresting Mark Houck in front of his wife and children. He was charged with two felony counts under the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, facing up to 11 years in prison and large fines. The Department of Justice under the Biden administration pursued the case. The charges were related to an incident that occurred in 2021, where Houck’s was in front of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Philadelphia
Houck’s regularly engaged in counseling and prayers at this Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia. In 2021, he entered into a dispute with a volunteer escort who insulted his son. According to accounts, this older male allegedly harassed and used vulgar language toward Houck’s (then) 12-year-old son, who was with him. Houck allegedly pushed the man away causing him to fall. Houck’s legal team argued self-defense of his son and that the escort was the aggressor. In January 2023, a jury in Philadelphia acquitted him on all charges after deliberating for about an hour. The raid drew significant criticism from anti-abortion and conservative groups as an example of alleged DOJ overreach and selective enforcement of the FACE Act against activists under the Biden administration, while the acquittal was framed as a “huge victory for free speech.”
Houck and his wife sued the Department of Justice / FBI for wrongful arrest, excessive force, and a faulty investigation, initially seeking millions in damages. His wife reportedly also suffered miscarriages amid the stress. On April 9th, 2026, Houck’s was awarded approximately $1.1 million in the settlement of that lawsuit under the Trump administration.
Houck is viewed as a hero and symbol of resistance to government overreach by many Christian and anti-abortion activist circles, while critics portray his clinic activities as harassment. His case has remained a frequent reference in discussions about the FACE Act and federal prosecutions of pro-life demonstrators.
