Orthodox Christian prayer wins in Russian TV talent show competition

#Russia #Moscow – The Archiereial Men’s Choir “Axios” (Архиерейский мужской хор «АКСИОС») from the Chelyabinsk Metropolis, an Orthodox Christian group, won a national talent show in the latest season of “All Together Now!” (Ну-ка, все вместе! Хором!). They performed a traditional Orthodox Jesus Prayer chant “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner” (“Господи Иисусе Христе, Сыне Божий, помилуй мя грешного”) on a Russia-1 TV talent show. The show is formatted with a panel of 100 vocal experts/judges who stand to approve or stay seated.

The performance earned a perfect 100/100 score — every judge stood. Many were visibly moved, with some crossing themselves and tearing up. The song included no flashy production, instruments, or theatrics — just powerful, reverent a cappella choral singing rooted in ancient Byzantine tradition.

The moment went viral in Orthodox Christian circles in recent weeks, although the episode aired in late March 2026. The performance stood out in a talent show context often featuring more secular or pop-style acts, highlighting the resonance of sacred music.

“Axios” means “Worthy” in Greek (a common liturgical exclamation in Orthodox services, e.g., during ordinations). The group is an official archiereial (episcopal) men’s choir tied to the Chelyabinsk Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church. They specialize in traditional Orthodox liturgical singing, hymns, and chants. The group regularly performs in church settings and has a presence promoting sacred music.

The clip spread widely on Western social media platforms with comments praising it as a spiritual victory amid modern entertainment. Many Orthodox viewers saw it as a powerful witness to faith.
