US Armed Forces personnel complain about Evangelical Christian rhetoric in briefings

#USA – According to The Cradle, US service members have submitted more than 110 complaints alleging that senior officers have communicated the war in Iran as part of “God’s divine plan” and that Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus” to lead the way.

According to the report, over 110 US service members have filed official complaints with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation within just 48 hours. These complaints came from more than 40 units across at least 30 military installations and multiple armed forces branches.

The complaints have alleged that US military commanders have described the war as part of “God’s divine plan” and tied the event to the Book of Revelations and “End Times” prophecy.

Another specific example from a combat-unit commander alleged “President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth.” The commander reportedly said this statement with enthusiasm during a briefing.

MRFF President Mikey Weinstein described an “unrestricted euphoria” among commanders who viewed the conflict as signs of the approaching apocalypse, even celebrating how “bloody” it must become to fulfill fundamentalist eschatology.

These complaints follow efforts from the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s expansion of evangelical programs within the Pentagon, including prayer, Bible study, and pro-Israel theology. Pete Hegseth has also been known to use evangelical rhetoric and “crusade” language.

In February, US Ambassador (for Israel) Mike Huckabee came under fire for similar rhetoric and said it would be “fine” for Israel to seize lands from neighboring countries as part of a vision for a “Greater Israel”. These claims were denounced by the same neighboring countries.

Today (March 3rd, 2026), a video surfaced from 2018 in which Pete Hegseth talked in favour of the reconstruction of a Third Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem, an event held in Orthodox Christian tradition to signal the arrival of the Antichrist.

In a 2025 address, The Cradle reports, at a gathering of 800 US generals and admirals, Hegseth called on military leaders to abandon “stupid rules of engagement” in favor of “maximum lethality,” and asked those uncomfortable with that directive to resign.

MPFF President has reported that the increased use of evangelical Christian fundamentalist rhetoric as the United States fights the Islamic fundamentalist regime in Iran, is cause for concern as it may violate constitutional and military law.
